Is Community Acupuncture Public Health?
No. Public health funds come from government subsides, grants, and/or donations. Community Acupuncture rely on fees charged to patients. Clinics are private sector practices and may be for profit, or not for profit businesses.
What is the difference between Conventional Vs. Community Acupuncture?
Conventional U.S. Acupuncturists adopted a European medical treatment model of private rooms, going over medical records of diagnosed health conditions with extensive questioning, and fees that are beyond affordability for the average working person.
Community style is how Acupuncture is practiced throughout Asia, including out-patient services in major hospitals. This model is affordable because treatments are in a large open room with groups of lounge chairs. We stagger the times people begin treatment so while we are needling a patient the others are relaxing during their treatments in the same area. We rely on the traditional oriental medicine diagonsis of quickly feeling your pulse and glancing at your tongue, with only brief talking. Streamlining allows us to treat multiple patients at one time. Some styles of acupuncture remove the needles after a few minutes or a half an hour. We allow patients to keep their needles until they feel ready, after a few treatments many patients will know when they are "done", and this can be less than 20 minutes to more than an hour. Most people relax into a restful nap, and feel refreshed. Only when you are ready we remove the needles and your acupuncture treatment is done.
We are Proud Members of The Community Acupuncture Network (CAN)
A nonprofit organization whose goal is to make acupuncture affordable and accessible by offering treatments in a community style setting, and the sliding scale fee.
